Most people who know anything about the Variety Children’s Charity know about their annual Variety Bash or the Variety 4WD Explorer events. But not too many people know about Variety’s Jet Trek. Jet Trek is similar to the 4WD ‘bashes’, in that it is a five-day trek. But the big difference is that Jet Trek takes place aboard jet skis! And Dr Hany is set to straddle his jet ski for the second year in a row to raise money for this worthwhile cause.
Dr Hany confirms that 2017’s Variety Jet Trek was a fantastic experience for participants and support crews alike. While the weather along parts of the Trek was miserable, the Trekkers didn’t allow it to dampen their spirts, not even when the wind kicked up on day two causing the Trekkers to travel by car to the next port. At each port, the participants were treated to massages, food and beer as well as fun, themed nights and nightly team-building activities such as lawn bowls, beach races and sumo wrestling. But best of all, the Trek allowed the participants, and their support crews, to explore some of the most spectacular beaches along the east coast of Australia.
Dr Hany participates in Jet Trek because the whole DentalCareXtra team firmly believe in the work that the Variety Children’s Charity does. Each year Variety helps more than 100,000 sick, disadvantaged or special-needs Australian children. This support comes in the form of grants to assist families who need mobility equipment, communication devices, medical items and services, and therapy services. Variety understands that these support aides can put a huge financial strain on families so, by easing the financial pressure, Variety is improving not only the quality of care these children are receiving but the quality of life for the entire family. Variety’s Jet Trek looks to carry on Variety’s greater purpose, and since it’s inception, it has raised nearly $1.5million for the cause.
This year’s Jet Trek sees the Trekkers travel along the New South Wales coast, from Sydney to Yamba, with stops at Woy Woy, Cessnock, Nelson Bay, Tuncurry, Crowdy Head, Port Macquarie, Trial Bay, and Dorrigo. The event kicks off on 19 March 2018. Dr Hany will endeavour to provide daily video updates via the DentalCareXtra Moranbah Facebook page, so be sure to check-in to see where he’s at and what he’s up to.
